100% Juice!

Sunday, March 28, 2010 by Jennifer C
Ever wondered what exactly it means when a juice advertises itself as being "100% Juice?"  If you're interested in Biotta's juices, this would be a piece of information you would probably like to know!

Nearly every one of our juices are 100% Juice.  This means that there is nothing else added in.  No additives, preservatives, or anything else that may lead it to being "from concentrate."  Mixed juices can only be 100% Juice if all included fruits or vegetables are 100% pure.

Here is the breakdown of Biotta's Juices:

100% Juice
Beet
Carrot
Vegetable Juice Cocktail (in this case, the 'cocktail' denotes a blend of vegetable juices)
Bruess® Vegetable Juice
Celery
Sauerkraut
Potato

Fruit juices are typically too tart or strong to consume at 100% juice.  Therefore, we blend our organic fruit juices with other juices as well as tea extracts to make them more palatable.

74% Juice
Breakfast Blend

70% Juice
Elderberry

We take pride in the natural, healthy, organic qualities of our juices, which is why we produce the purest juice we can!  For a full nutritional breakdown of any of our juices, just check out the products page and take a look!

Aiding Digestion with Potato Juice

Friday, March 26, 2010 by Jennifer C
Many scientists are claiming that American's poor diets these days have resulted in more digestion problems.  While one of the best ways to fix this problem would be balancing out meals with healthy portions from all of the food groups, there are some vegetables that seem to work particularly well at helping the digestive system.

Potato Juice has long held the reputation for being one of the most effective ways to soothr the stomach.  Potato Juice has been shown to do the following**:
  •  Balance the acid condition and acts as a natural anti inflammatory drink.
  •  Treat stomach ulcers, rheumatoid arthritis and liver disorders
  •  Drastically reduce the chances of constipation.
  •  Helps treat gastritis and gastrointestinal disorders.
All of Biotta's organic juices are packed full of healthy vitamins and minerals, and our Potato Juice is no exception!

Monday, March 22, 2010 by Jennifer C
As the temperature is rising, everyone is getting ready to spend the summer outside, playing sports and engaging in all sorts of other activities.  But with strenuous activity and high temperatures, we are constantly reminded to make sure we stay hydrated.

According to an article online, "Ideal in tropical climates, celery juice is a natural coolant and protector in hot weather. A glass of organic celeriac juice will keep you dry and comfortable, while those around you perspire. Great if you enjoy a vigorous workout like I do, celery juice can be used as a natural sports drink to replace valuable fluid and mineral loss due to sweating."

While sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade are packed full of added sugars and artificial flavors, Biotta's juice has no added sugars, meaning your body can get the most hydration possible!

Carrot Juice a "Goldmine of natural vitamins and nutrients..."

Monday, March 15, 2010 by Jennifer C
"Carrots should be considered a goldmine of natural vitamins and nutrients..."

"Among other raw vegetable juices, carrot juice is an absolute leader in the context of the variety of its therapeutic effects, the contents of useful elements and its compatibility with other juices or foods..."

"No other vegetable contains as much beta carotene as carrots..."

Here are just a few of the statements I found on GuideToHerbalRemedies.com while researchingRaw Carrots how carrot juice benefits the body.  Pretty bold claims, huh?  Well, I suppose you are allowed to make such bold claims when they are 100% true...  Carrot juice truly is one of the healthiest things for the body.

We have probably all heard that carrot juice is packed full of beta carotene, and the major connection between beta carotene and vision.  However, vision is not the only thing benefited by carrot juice.  Drinking carrot juice also helps to relieve stress and aid in the digestion process!

What is Sauerkraut Juice good for?

Saturday, March 13, 2010 by Jennifer C
What do most people think of when they think of sauerkraut?  Probably German food and bratwurst?  Although those may be common things to associate sauerkraut with, all of us here at Biotta believe it's about time to start looking into the many health benefits that come from drinking sauerkraut juice!

Sauerkraut is actually one of the best foods when it comes to helping aid your digestive system.  According to Sauerkraut.com, "Sauerkraut is one of the few foods that contain the bacterium Lactobacilli plantarum. L. planatarum is a very dominant strain of healthful bacteria which helps your digestive system."

Organic Sauerkraut Juice also works as an immune booster!  "Sauerkraut contains phytochemicals which are created during the fermentation process. These naturally occurring, beneficial
by-products of sauerkraut help boost the immune system, which leads to a decrease in a number of health problems.

The Benefits of Cutting Out Caffeine! (A multi-part series)

Saturday, March 6, 2010 by Jennifer C
This is the first part of a multi-segment series on the health benefits of cutting caffeine out of your diet.

As you may know, all* of Biotta's organic vegetable juice, fruit juice, and blends are 100% caffeine free!  We are dedicated to providing the most healthy juice possible and we know that cutting caffeine is an easy starting point...

Fact #1: Caffeine can prevent your body from absorbing vitamins and minerals.

According to Dr. Dan Rutherford on NetDoctor.co.uk, "[Caffeine] can increase the excretion of vitamins and minerals from the body, so you won't get the full benefits of healthy foods." When you fill your diet with caffeinated drinks, you are making it more difficult for your body to use all the vitamins and minerals you ingest every day.

Think about it, for every cup of coffee or soda you drink, you can easily be canceling out that healthy breakfast/lunch/dinner you tried to have.  And according to Dr. Rutherford, it can take up to 18 hours for caffeine to completely leave your system, meaning it is with you for the entire day.

Like I mentioned earlier, every one* of Biotta's juices is caffeine free.  For more nutrition information on our elderberry juice, beet juice, or any of our other juices, check out Products page here!

(In the next "Benefits of Cutting Out Caffeine" post- Heart Rate & Energy)

*Biotta Energy Drink does contain natural caffeine from Guarana.

The respiratory benefits of drinking elderberry juice!

Monday, February 22, 2010 by Jennifer C
I hate getting sick.  It seems like every winter I'm struck with it all- a cold, the flu, a sinus infection... you name it, I've had it.  And ever since I had a severe respiratory tract infection a few years ago, I've always suffered from congestion and coughs.

After reading an article from Natural-HomeRemedies, it became clear to me how easy (and delicious) it can be to attack these problems in the future: Elderberry Juice.

The benefits of elderberry juice are countless, but the respiratory related ones are fascinating.  According to Natural-HomeRemedies:

"When the juice is consumed, the anti-inflammatory properties of the juice work to reduce the amount of mucus secreted.  It drains the mucus out of the body, thereby reducing the signs of nasal congestion."

Whether you're trying to prevent getting sick or trying to get over something, elderberry juice is effective.  While other juices may claim to help against respiratory problems, Biotta's elderberry juice is the only 100% natural juice that you'll find!

Are you Drinking Empty Calories?

Friday, February 19, 2010 by Sara Cox
When we think of calories, we think of them coming from the foods we eat.  When you have a medium cafe latte with whole milk with breakfast, then a 20 oz. regular soda ad lunch, and a 16 oz. sweetened iced tea with lemon mid-day, and glass of wine at dinner, that doesn't sound unreasonable, does it?  After all, they are liquid!

Those 4 beverages amont to 800 calories - or 40% of an average 2,000 calorie daily diet.  And although they keep you hydrated throughout the day, these 800 calories are EMPTY calories.

Sodas, coffee, tea...there is no nutritional benefit to any of these beverages, yet they seem to pack on the calories.  Drinking a 100% organic pure juice, like Biotta Juice, however, will provide you with the same calories, but with the added benefit of vitamins, minerals and other health benefits, like blood pressure lowering properties of our Beet Juice, and soothing an upset stomach like our Potato Juice.

Juice drinks and waters are often enhanced with vitamins and herbs.  Although at first glance they seem like a healthy alternative to soda, but how much sugar and artificial flavoring doe they contain?

Biotta Juices are 100% pure - not from concentrate and never diluted.  They are packed full of all natural nutrients, and come in 2 sizes of convenient, recyclable glass bottles.

Why Organic?

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 by Jennifer C
We hear more and more about the benefits of "going organic".  Grocery stores seem to continue to increase their organic products and more organic markets are popping up.

Let's take a look at the benefits of organic juices.  Organically grown fruits and vegetables have not been sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals.  It is easy to believe that when we rinse our fruits and vegetables they remove any harmful chemicals, but that is not the case.  Chemicals can easily absorb through the fragile skin of many varieties of conventionally grown produce.

All Biotta organic juices are made from naturally grown fruits and vegetables.  The quality of the produce is the nutritional value of their juices.

Learn more about Biotta fresh juices and their wellness benefits today!

Who Is Biotta?

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 by Jennifer C
Biotta has been committed to organic farming since 1951.  It harvests its fruits and vegetables from healthy, living soil and got on the organic bandwagon many years before organic became popular.  Biotta uses first-class raw products and careful processing as the key to all of Biotta fresh juices.  All of the juices are 100% pure, organic, natural juices that are not made from concentrate or diluted with water.

And where did that name come from?  "Bio" means organic in German.  Tagerwilen is the village in Switzerland where our juices are produced.  Put those two together and you get Biotta, an organic Swiss company and brand.

To see all of the fresh juices Biotta produces and where you can find them, check out our website today.  We would love to help you with any questions you have!

A Great New Year’s Resolution – Drink Biotta Juices!

Monday, January 11, 2010 by George Pappas

I recently read an interesting and informative article on making New Year’s resolutions.  Entitled “Make realistic resolutions for 2010,” the article, written by Jessica Smith, presents a doable approach to New Year’s resolutions.*

Since fitness is often in the top five resolutions people make, it’s important to be realistic in your goals.  The article talks about exercise—types, locations and duration.  The rest of the article deals with weight management, weight loss and proper nutrition.  It presents a sensible approach to this subject, and includes these tips for developing realistic nutritional goals:

  1. Eat more fruits and vegetables.  Interesting that this should be number one on her list.  What better way to get your fruits and vegetables than with Biotta’s 100% all-natural juices?
  2. Eat more whole grains and high-fiber foods.
  3. Eat balanced meals that contain a healthy carbohydrate, lean protein, healthy fat, and a fruit or veggie.  (Fruits and veggies again?  Think Biotta!)
  4. Eat breakfast (Biotta Breakfast Drink?)
  5. Don’t skip meals.
  6. Drink more water.
  7. Limit high-fat foods and fried or greasy foods.
  8. Limit fast food.
  9. Plan your meals before you go grocery shopping.
  10. Pack quick, healthy lunches and snacks to bring to work (Biotta’s single serving bottles are perfect on-the-go).
  11. Try eating 4-6 small meals or snacks per day.
  12. Practice eating slowly.  Stop when you are comfortably satisfied.*
Biotta’s organic juices fit perfectly in a healthy diet regimen.  If eating and feeling healthier is on your New Year’s resolution list, make sure Biotta juices are a part of your plan.

Taster’s Choice – As Seen in the San Francisco Chronicle

Friday, January 8, 2010 by George Pappas

Sunday, December 27, the San Francisco Chronicle ran a story entitled “Grocery store brands come out on top.”  Written by Amanda Gold, the article detailed research she had done in preparation for a local TV news segment where the subject was advertised brands of food versus grocery store brands, and how they stacked up. *

Local chefs, cookbook authors and food professionals tested products blind, and rated them based on texture, appearance and taste.  The panel of judges considered foods in many categories: snacks, beverages, dairy, fruits and vegetables, breakfast, baked goods, lunch and dinner, sweet and treats, and condiments. Of the vegetable juices they rated, Biotta’s Organic Vegetable Juice Cocktail was the winner.

A well-balanced blend, our Vegetable Juice Cocktail contains several vital nutrients from freshly gathered organic vegetables: tomatoes, carrots, celeriac and beetroots.  It has a rich tomato base.  Tomatoes contain natural lycopene (a phyto-nutrient) for improved cell function and cell metabolism compromised by environmental influences.  Biotta Vegetable Juice Cocktail is low in calories and contains large amounts of natural vitamin C.

This broad exposure for Biotta juices is the latest in a line of impressive media attention.  Biotta’s first national exposure came last April, when Whoopi Goldberg mentioned Biotta’s all-natural juices on The View.  Recently, our products have also been featured in Shape, OK! and Life & Style magazines, among others.  Be on the lookout in your favorite publications for more information on Biotta natural organic juices.

The Juice – Your Questions Answered

Friday, January 1, 2010 by Sara Cox

Every day, we field questions about our Biotta juices—ingredients, potential health benefits, our proprietary manufacturing process, distribution, etc.  We thought that, if a few people are asking these questions, then perhaps many of you would be interested in the answers as well.  When you see our blog featuring The Juice – Your Questions Answered, you’ll know we are answering consumer questions about our 100% organic juices that may be relevant to you.

QUESTION:
I see sugar as one of the ingredients of your Elderberry Juice and Breakfast Juice.  Do your juices include added sugar?

ANSWER:
Elderberry juice is the only juice where we add sugar—organic cane sugar.  We add it because the elderberry has a very strong, bitter taste without the added sugar.  Elderberry Juice has 34 g of sugar in total; 10.5 g are naturally occurring, and 23.5g are added.

Our Breakfast Juice also lists 22.5g sugar, but all of the sugar content is naturally occurring from the ingredients of the product; there is no sugar added.  Our vegetable juices also contain sugar, but they are all naturally occurring.

The Benefits of 100% Organic Juices

Wednesday, December 30, 2009 by Sara Cox

Studies continue to show the benefits of organic products.  In the Fall issue of The Organic Report, the News & Trends section features an article on this subject.  It examines recent findings of a study conducted by the University of Aix-Marseille in France, commissioned by the French agency for Food Safety.

The study confirmed “…the high nutritional quality and safety of food produced using organic practices.”*  The benefits include more dry matter, minerals and antioxidant micronutrients than non-organic counterparts.  In addition, the study showed that 100% organic foods have “…significantly lower amounts of nitrates and residues of toxic chemical pesticides, fungicides and herbicide.”*

Biotta Juices – All-Natural. 100% Organic
What do we mean when we say our juices are 100% organic?  Biotta uses only organic farming for all our fruits and vegetables.  For more than 50 years, we’ve been dedicated to producing top-quality organic juices from fruits and vegetables that are fresh from the field to the bottle.  Over the years, Biotta has farmed more than 1,700 acres of chemical-free, fertilizer-free, and toxic-free land.

But, production processes also have a direct influence on the quality of a juice.  The basic rule is: the fewer steps in the production and the lower the processing temperature, the higher the nutritional value of the juice.  Biotta extracts juice from healthy, field/vine-ripened fruits and vegetables.  Competitors often store vegetable juices in tanks to be bottled as needed.  The result is that these juices are repeatedly heated and the quality is diminished.  Biotta bottles our juices immediately after extracting the juice.

And Biotta juices are never reconstituted from concentrates, and no artificial additives (preservatives, vitamins) are used.  Biotta juices are 100% organic, fresh from the field to the bottle.  Great care is taken throughout the growing and production processes to ensure our customers receive the freshest juices available on the market.

H1N1 is Still a Threat

Wednesday, December 23, 2009 by George Pappas

I heard on the news this morning that, although the cases of reported H1N1 flu are down right now, experts are bracing for another wave yet to come in January.  A recent article in Taste for Life magazine reviewed the common symptoms of the flu—fever, chills, cough, dry throat, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue.  Flu lasts longer than the common cold—sometimes up to 12 days or longer.*  With an increasing number of deaths being linked to this highly contagious virus, it’s a great idea to boost your immune system to help fight off this and other viruses.

Boost Your Immune System
One of the easiest and most effective ways to boost your immune system is with a healthful, balanced diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables.  Biotta juices are an all-natural way to get the recommended number of fruit and vegetable servings.  In addition, certain juices are specifically believed to boost the immune system—especially elderberry, beet, and carrot juice.

Biotta Elderberry Juice
The Taste for Life article specifically mentioned the immune-building properties of the elderberry.  “While no medicine (herbal or conventional) has yet been definitively proven to kill the H1N1 virus, a recent cell study shows that the flavonoids in elderberry bind to this virus.  Investigators add that these substances ‘compare favorably to the known anti-influenza activities of Oseltamivir (Tamiflu).’”*

Another recent study, cited in a PRWeb® press release** also cited the benefits of elderberries in boosting immunity.  Elderberries have twice the amount of antioxidants as blueberries and cranberries.  Elderberry juice also supplies vitamin C to assist in the prevention and treatment of colds; it’s been medically proven as a strong anti-viral and immune system enhancer.  Biotta’s Elderberry Juice is made from freshly gathered, sun-ripened organic elderberries and is available in an 8.4 fl. oz. recyclable glass bottle.

Kids, Drink Your Vegetables!

Monday, December 21, 2009 by George Pappas

We all know children don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables.  An article in the November 2009 edition of Taste for Life magazine, entitled “eat your veggies,” reported that, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “only 33 percent of all adults in this country eat two or more daily servings of fruit, and just 27 percent consume the recommended three or more daily servings of vegetables.”*

But the news regarding children is even more dismal.  The article goes on to report that “under 10 percent of American high school students are eating sufficient amounts of fruits and veggies.”*

William H. Dietz, MD, who directs the CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity states, “A diet high in fruits and vegetables is important for optimal child growth, maintaining a healthy weight, and prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and some cancer, all of which currently contribute to healthcare costs in the United States.”*

Drink Biotta 100% Organic Juices
Overall, people who consume sufficient amounts of fruits and vegetables are less likely to have chronic diseases, including stroke, type 2 diabetes, some forms of cancer, and perhaps heart disease.  So, how to get you children to consume the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables?  Give them Biotta all-natural juices.

Check out our previous blog  for the top ten reasons to choose Biotta all-natural juices.  Biotta juices are amazing products.  We provide a unique taste experience through our natural whole fruits and vegetables, grown and harvested for optimum quality, and then minimally processed to ensure great taste and high nutritional value.

Drink Juice to Detoxify and Cleanse

Monday, December 7, 2009 by Sara Cox
“You do not have to adhere to a “detox” regimen to rid your body of any toxins.  Your body is equipped with your liver and kidney to rid your body of any toxins and waste.  A healthy, well balanced diet that provides adequate fiber from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables will keep waste matter moving in your GI tract and aid in its elimination from your body.”
-- Joan Salge Blake, MS, RD, LDN and Clinical Associate Professor at Boston University's Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.*

When we talk about detoxifying or cleansing your body from within, the foods you eat and the juice you drink can help to cleanse the body’s detoxification organs, including the liver, intestines, kidneys and skin, preventing harmful toxic buildup.**

Simply by making smart food choices and eating healthy foods, we can assist our bodies in removing toxins.  Here are some foods that help this process, some of which are found in Biotta 100% organic juices.

•    Apples help eliminate toxins and clean the intestines.
•    Avocados lower cholesterol, dilate blood vessels and block many known carcinogens.

•    Beets contain compounds that make them superb blood and liver cleansers.  Biotta Beet Juice is available in 8.4 and 16.9 fluid ounce recyclable glass bottles.

•    Blueberries contain natural aspirin; they lower inflammation and block bacteria in the urinary tract.

About the Elderberry

Tuesday, December 1, 2009 by George Pappas

We’ve had quite a bit of interest about Biotta Elderberry Juice every since Dr. Oz mentioned on a recent TV show that elderberry juice can help boost your immune system.  This post and the one to follow will give you a little more background about the elderberry—the various types and benefits—and talk about some of the scientific research being done.

The History of the Elderberry
For centuries, elderberries have been used throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Africa as a folk remedy for many ailments.  The most common type of elderberry is the Sambucus Nigra, grown in temperate climate throughout Europe and North America.  Hippocrates called this plant the “medicine chest” because of all of the illnesses it could be used to treat.*

There are several species of the elderberry tree.  Most information you read and most of the research done has been about the Sambucus Nigra, which is the type of elderberry used in Biotta Elderberry Juice.  Other species include the America elder, antelope brush, blue elderberry, danewort, dwarf elder, red-fruited elder, and Sambucus formosana.**

The Elderberry Tree
The elderberry tree grows up to 30 feet tall.  Native to Europe, it has been cultivated successfully in the Americas as well.** The tree bears beige flowers and dark purple berries in autumn.  All the parts of the tree have been used for medicinal purposes.  The leaves are often added to topical creams to treat inflammation, and the bark has been used to treat stomach ailments.***

But the flowers and berries are most often used to treat a variety of illnesses and conditions (see the following post).***  They contain flavonoids that have antioxidants and immune-boosting properties.  In fact, elderberries contain “organic pigments, tannin, amino acids, carotenoids, flavonoids, sugar, rutin, viburnic acid, vitamin A and B, and a large amount of vitamin C.”****

Elderberry Juice
Many sources suggest drinking elderberry juice to boost your immune system and improve digestion.  Since large doses can cause digestive problems in some people, it is sometimes recommended that 10 ounces of elderberry juice be consumed daily.*

Biotta Elderberry Juice
Biotta Elderberry Juice boosts your immune system and eases the strain on the respiratory system by increasing the production and performance of white blood cells and building resistance to various kinds of infections. When a person becomes ill, he/she may suffer from blocked respiratory passages.  The natural active ingredient in elderberries can help regenerate the cilia’s filtering function; that’s why it’s a natural to help relieve colds and flu (some people even drink it to help relieve symptoms of asthma).  Biotta’s Elderberry Juice is made from freshly gathered, sun-ripened organic Sambucus Nigra (black) elderberries .  Biotta’s Elderberry Juice is available in an 8.4 fl. oz. recyclable glass bottle.
