Beet Juice Benefits

Frozen Treats Made From Beets

Thursday, September 23, 2010 by Jennifer C
The benefits from drinking beet juice range from reducing blood pressure to contributing to your folic acid intake.  While the beet juice tastes amazing and refreshing on it's own one trick that I have found to up the 'WOW' factor is to make beet popsicles.

These make the perfect low fat and healthy snack for your kids on those hot summer days!  This nutritious treat has no sugar added compared to a standard grape flavored popsicle that has an astounding 8 grams of sugar in each one.  The most cost effective way that I have found to make these are to fill small dixie cups half way up with juice and put either a straw or tongue depressor in the juice.  Freeze these and cut away the paper cup.  Voila... Beet Treats to Beat the Heat!

Going organic...

Tuesday, September 14, 2010 by Natalie Hadley
I'll admit, when I started drinking Biotta Juices, that was the first step I made toward support the organic movement.  I was never opposed to going organic, I just never took a step back to see how it would be helpful and what possible dangers existed in non-organic foods.

Now that I know more of the actual benefits that exist with supporting organic farmers, I catch myself leaning toward going organic in more foods.  If I see a head of cabbage that is organic right next to another non-organic head, it's an easy decision.

I know that it seems small, but I know that every small effort makes a big difference to a farmer who cares enough to grow organic.
The organic movement fits perfectly with a company like Biotta, they are always watching every aspect of the cultivation and harvesting of the fruits and veggies to make sure it is the healthiest drink possible for the consumer!

Their organic juices range from beet juice to carrot juice to potato juice and everything in between!  Check out the product page to see them all!

Enjoy the Juice!

Beet Juice and Heart Health...

Saturday, September 11, 2010 by Jennifer C
Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of Americans every year?  It's been estimated that over 81 MILLION Americans have some form of heart disease.

According to Natural News, "Researchers have found that a glass of beet juice each day beats high blood pressure."

Recent studies have also led scientists to believe that beet juice has a very strong effect against cardiovascular disease.

Here's an excerpt from one study...
"...animals with chemically-induced high cholesterol were fed beet fiber. Compared to the control group, the beet fed animals experienced a total cholesterol drop of 30%, while their triglycerides dropped 40%. Essentially, the beets significantly dropped the animals` risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The animals` HDL (beneficial cholesterol) also increased significantly, offering protective benefits."

Biotta's beet juice is available in 16.9 oz and 8.4 oz bottles.  Just click here for more information and click on the button below to see where you can buy some!

My Advice to an Athlete...

Friday, August 20, 2010 by Jennifer C
Just a few days ago, I was having a conversation with a good friend of mine who happens to be a college athlete.  He said that he has been having constant debates with his coaches over what liquids he should be taking in during the season.  Just water? Just Gatorade? Artificially flavored fruit juice? They couldn't land on what would be the best route to take.

It was during this conversation that I kindly stopped him and gave him one recommendation- Beet Juice.  Obviously, you should never cut water, or other nutrient and enzyme building liquids from your diet, but once I explained to him the benefits that beet juice has on the body, I could see the wheels turning.

I don't know if it was my telling him that beets have been proven to boost energy and help people have the stamina to exercise 16% longer...

...or if it was my telling him that it
increases the amount of nitric oxide in the body.  That, in turn, helps blood vessels relax, lowers blood pressure and has anti-inflammatory benefits as well...

...or if it was my explanation of the high levels of calcium that helps improve bone health...

but SOMETHING sparked something in him and he asked, "Where do I buy beet juice??"

I said that there is only one place around that sells 100% Organic Beet Juice, and that is Biotta!  Think you're sold on the idea? Check out the website and see where you can order some today!

Beet Juice During Pregnancy

Tuesday, August 17, 2010 by Jennifer C
It seems like the list of things pregnant mothers need to watch over and maintain for those long nine months just gets longer and longer.  Two major concerns that doctors tell pregnant women to keep an eye on are high blood pressure and anemia.  Did you know these two problems can be combated by one easy solution: Beet Juice!

High blood pressure during pregnancy (referred to as Pre-eclampsia) usually occurs around 20 weeks.  Drinking 4 oz. of beet juice daily around this time can help to balance the sodium/potassium ratio in your blood.*

Anemia is also a common problem women face during pregnancy.  Doctors recommend turning to foods high in iron to help prevent and combat the onset of anemia.  One of beet juice's most healthy attributes is its high levels of iron.

Obviously, drinking any of Biotta's organic vegetable juice and fruit juice would be beneficial during pregnancy.  You can check out this previous post on the benefits of carrot juice to nursing mothers!

Setting Goals Leads to Change!

Friday, August 13, 2010 by Jennifer C
I don't know about you, but I've always been someone who has been very "goal oriented." If I know exactly what I'm reaching toward when I start something, it makes it much easier to track my progress and find motivation to complete a certain task.  This can carry over into any area of life, from work, to relationships, to health.

According to Mind Tools, "By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals. You can see forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind. By setting goals, you will also raise your self-confidence, as you recognize your ability and competence in achieving the goals that you have set."

Simple things like physical activity and getting a solid amount of sleep can be the perfect place to start setting goals.

A healthy diet can also be a beneficial place to set goals.  I've written before about the recommended servings of fruits and veggies to include in your daily diet.  Keep track of how many servings you get in a day.  Or maybe try a weekly goal... If this is a big adjustment, start small and work your way up.

Remember, it is easier to count your servings by having a glass of Biotta Organic Juice with your lunch or breakfast!  That is one reason we recommend our fresh juices to our consumers!

Maybe it's time to try to have a glass of beet juice every morning?  Or potato juice before your meals to prevent indigestion?

Whatever your goals are, set them and stick with them!  They will benefit your life in many ways!

Too Early to Think About Osteoporosis? Think Again...

Thursday, August 5, 2010 by Jennifer C
Statistics say that women have a higher risk of dying from osteoporosis than breast cancer...  Thisosteoporosis is highly caused by women's lack of caution during early stages of life to prevent the onset of osteoporosis (disease causing deterioration of the bones).

Nitrate Rich Veggies Lower Blood Pressure

Wednesday, August 4, 2010 by Jennifer C
A few years ago, scientists in Sweden conducted a number of experiments and found that nitrate rich vegetables help lead to lower blood pressure!  Below is an except from the study:

Each participant rotated between taking a daily dose of nitrate supplement equivalent to the amount normally found in 150 to 250 gm of a nitrate-rich vegetable including spinach, lettuce, or beetroot for three days, and taking a placebo for a different three days.

The results showed that average diastolic blood pressure was lower after three days of nitrate supplementation than it was after taking the placebo for three days.

Many of the vegetables in Biotta's Juices are packed full of nitrates that will help your body see these same effects!  Biotta has always been dedicated to providing the best quality juice possible that will benefit your body the most, including our beet juice, carrot juice and many others!

If you would like to see the full selection of Biotta's juices, check out our product page!

Don't Be Afraid to Mix Up the Beet Juice

Sunday, August 1, 2010 by Jennifer C
I could spend this post like most of our posts simply discussing a long list of the benefits of beets (which you can find here... or here... or here); however, I would like to take a moment to touch on one concern you may have about drinking beet juice.

Studies have shown that some people have a tougher time digesting beets.  In some cases, "it causes sickness, vomiting, giddiness, heartthrob, general weakness."  There is no reason to be concerned about these side effects because there is an easy solution!

We realize that straight beet juice might not be for everyone, but the benefits shouldn't be passed up! That is why we recommend mixing it with other vegetable juices.  When you combine it with some of our organic carrot juice, you can get some delicious beverages.  Here are a few I found:
  • Carrot, beet, ginger, garlic
  • Carrot, beet, cucumber
  • Carrot, beet, parsley, cucumber
  • Carrot, beet, spinach
  • Carrot, beet, celery, parsley
  • Carrot, beet, cucumber, parsley, garlic
What are you waiting for? Grab a bottle of Biotta's organic beet, carrot, or any of our other organic vegetable juice today and get a new start on a healthy lifestyle!

Beet Juice and Heart Health

Friday, July 30, 2010 by Jennifer C
Today, I stumbled upon a very interesting study explaining another one of the ways that beet juice benefits the body.  Doctors have even more evidence in the powerful connection between beet juice and blood pressure.  I have included excerpts from the article below:

"[The scientists] found that drinking 500 millilitres of the juice led to significant reductions in blood pressure within hours.

The effect was traced to nitrate in the vegetable which reacted with bacteria in the mouth. This led to chemical changes which resulted in blood vessels dilating to increase blood flow.

Fourteen healthy volunteers were recruited for the study and asked to drink either 500 millilitres of beetroot juice or the same quantity of water within 30 minutes.   Volunteers who drank the juice started to show reductions in blood pressure after just one hour.

After two and a half hours, their systolic rate - the pressure with each heartbeat - was around 10 millimeters of mercury (mm of Hg) lower than that of participants who had drunk water.

For the diastolic reading - the "resting" pressure between heartbeats - a reduction of 8 mm Hg was seen in the juice drinkers after three hours.
"

Juices Relieve Arthritis Pain!

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 by Jennifer C
According to Caring4Arthritis, 40 million people in the US suffer from some form of arthritis.  Sufferers have some options to help relieve the pain of arthritis, but most don't know about some of the most useful biological remedies for the pain.  It turns out many different organic juices contain vitamins and minerals that help to combat the pains caused by arthritis.

The most effective juice is potato juice!  You will be able to see the benefits after drinking one glass every morning on an empty stomach.

Other juices that work particularly well are carrot, celery, and beet juice!  According to Home Remedies For You, "The alkaline action of raw juices dissolves the accumulation of deposits around the joints and in other tissues." Conveniently enough, these are all juices that Biotta carries!

Fresh and Crisp.

Friday, July 16, 2010 by Natalie Hadley
Fresh and crisp are the words that seem to always come to mind when I'm enjoying a nice cool glass of Biotta's Juice on a hot day.  It really does amaze me how the juice can stay so fresh tasting after a lengthy shelf time.  Because I like to buy my pure organic juice in bulk, sometimes it can be a little while before I get to the last bottle in the case, but that has no impact on the fresh taste I get!

I always get a very crisp feel when I have a glass, as well... almost like the feeling you get biting into a fresh tomato or celery stalk.  It just makes the juice taste all the more better when I feel the crispness in every taste!

And no one would deny that the best part of a bottle of Biotta is the health benefits that go along with them.  It's amazing that a bottle of Beet Juice truly is one of the healthiest thing you can put in your body!  I'm so glad I discovered Biotta!

Enjoy the Juice!

Biotta- The ONLY Place to Buy Organic Beet Juice!

Monday, July 12, 2010 by Jennifer C
I was doing a little shopping the other day and decided to look into Beet Juice sold by other companies (strictly for comparison purposes).  The results of my search made me ecstatic!  As it turns out, Biotta Juices is the ONLY place where you will find the actual juice! (Seriously, Google it!)  The closest thing you would find online would be beet juice powder.

While these powders claim to have some health benefits, they cannot come anywhere near the level of Biotta.  The body benefits so much from drinking juice (just check out this previous post on the subject!)  Many vitamins and nutrients are inside beets that couldn't carry over into powder form.

With a vegetable so healthy and delicious as beets, we are proud to be able to showcase it off to the world!  Check out more information about our juice here

Beet Juice Helps to Lower Blood Pressure!

Monday, June 21, 2010 by Jennifer C
The following is an excerpt of a Q & A from The People's Pharmacy regarding the health benefits connecting blood pressure and  beet juice:

Q. Is there anything in the way of vitamins or herbs that a person can take instead of a prescription drug for high blood pressure?

A. The newest candidate for natural blood pressure control is beet juice. A study in the journal Hypertension (online Feb. 4, 2008) showed that two cups (500 ml) of beet juice lowered blood pressure by approximately 10 points. That is better than many prescription drugs. The effect lasts up to 24 hours.

Beets are high in dietary nitrate and increase the amount of nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide (NO) helps blood vessels relax, lowering blood pressure. NO has anti-inflammatory activity and discourages blood clot formation.

Every bottle of is packed full of essential vitamins and minerals that promote good health!  Check out the full selection on our Products Page!

Benefits of Cutting Out Caffeine (Part IX)

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 by Jennifer C
This post explaining some of the negative effects of caffeine covers a pretty popular topic here on the Biotta Blog- High Blood Pressure...

For people experiencing high blood pressure or high blood sugar levels, caffeine can have very negative effects on the body.  Caffeine acts as a stimulant, causing high blood pressure levels to increase.

Some sources also say that high doses of caffeine can induce an irregular heart beat in those who have healthy blood pressure levels.

So what is a healthy alternative to caffeine for people with high blood pressure? Easy- Beet Juice!  Biotta's juice is one of the healthiest ways to treat problems with blood pressure because it is one of the best nitrate rich vegetables around!

For more information on natural ways to help your problems with blood pressure, or for more options to choose from instead of caffeinated drinks, check out our website today!

The Benefits of Cutting Out Caffeine (Part VI)

Saturday, June 12, 2010 by Jennifer C
Who would have thought that this series could have lasted to a "Part VI"??  It's true! The more research I've been able to do into caffeine and its negative affect on the body, the more I'm realize how unhealthy it can be.

Today's research lead me to finding a list of hormones affected by a diet high in caffeine.  I was shocked to see just how much caffeine alters the chemical makeup of our bodies.  Below I've listed some of the hormones affected:

  • Adenosine- Can inhibit absorption of adenosine, which calms the body, which can make you feel alert in the short run, but can cause sleep problems later
  • Adrenaline- Caffeine injects adrenaline into your system, giving you a temporary boost, but possibly making you fatigued and depressed later. If you take more caffeine to counteract these effects, you end up spending the day in an agitated state, and might find yourself jumpy and edgy by night.
  • Cortisol- Can increase the body’s levels of cortisol, the “stress hormone”, which can lead to other health consequences ranging from weight gain and moodiness to heart disease and diabetes.
  • Dopamine- Caffeine increases dopamine levels in your system, acting in a way similar to amphetamines, which can make you feel good after taking it, but after it wears off you can feel ‘low’. It can also lead to a physical dependence because of dopamine manipulation.
With enough things these days causing stress and health issues, cutting out caffeine seems like the perfect way to start a change toward better health.  This is exactly why Biotta Juices includes no added caffeine.  We are dedicated toward promoting a healthy lifestyle in all areas of your life and cutting or limiting caffeine is the perfect place to start.

All of our heart healthy juices, from our organic beet juice to our elderberry juice, contain no added caffeine and are packed full of essential vitamins and minerals that will help lead you to a healthier life!

Keys to Healthy Living (Part II)

Monday, June 7, 2010 by Jennifer C
My last segment in this series ties in very well with this one.  Last time, I discussed the importance of adding water to your diet already full of healthy food and drinks.  This segment's key to healthy living- Getting Active!

Regular physical activity is essential to keeping the body at a healthy state.  "With regular exercise, fat deposits and excessive sugar levels in the body are reduced. The aftermath of this is that organs in the body like the heart, the kidney and liver are kept in good working condition. Thus, to live long, regular exercise as well as good eating patterns are needed"**

Making small decisions at first, like taking the stairs or parking further away from the store, will help you build up to a physically active routine.

Fresh juices can become extremely helpful when trying to maintain a physically active life.  The Biotta Breakfast Blend gives you the perfect burst of energy you need in the morning, and celery juice has been given a very strong reputation of being a way to remain hydrated when active.

One post I wrote focused on the benefits of beet juice for athletes because of the way it helps the body gain oxygen and not tire easily.
