Beet Juice Benefits

Beet Juice & Kidney Stones

Monday, May 24, 2010 by Jennifer C
I have an uncle who has long suffered from kidney stones.  It seems like every couple years he is stricken with a kidney stone so bad he can hardly function.

After recently reading an article on treating kidney stones, I now have some advice for him... Beet Juice!  According to Helium.com, "Beets are known to help dissolve kidney stones."  When the juice goes through your system, it actually causes the stones to break down making it easier for them to pass.

Beets are one of the healthiest foods out there.  The benefits are constantly showing up in different areas of health.  Check out this previous post on organic beet juice to see more details on benefits.

This SoCal Radio Station Knows Its Juices!

Saturday, May 22, 2010 by Jennifer C
Recently, Hometown Station AM 1220 in Southern California posted a piece discussing the benefits of going to fresh juices over other drink possibilities.  Below I have included some highlights from the article:
  • Celery- The minerals contained in celery juice make the body better able to use calcium, balancing the blood's pH. Celery juice is thought to have a calming effect on the nervous system, and to reduce one's appetite for sweets.
  • Carrot- Carrot juice is an extremely rich source of beta carotene, which is converted by the body into pro-vitamin A (natural vitamin A). Vitamin A is essential for the normal development and health of many body tissues, including the skin and eyes.
  • Beet- Known as a blood builder and kidney purifier, beet juice is a good source of vitamin B-6 and minerals like chlorine, iron, sodium and potassium.
So there you have it!  The facts are everywhere: Including juices in your diet is one of the healthiest changes you can make to your lifestyle.

Luckily, Biotta carries all of those juices and you can click here to see where to order some today!

High Blood Pressure? BEET IT!

Monday, May 3, 2010 by Jennifer C
High blood pressure is a serious problem for thousands of Americans.  Many people, including sufferers, don't know the list of effects that high blood pressure can have on the body.  High blood pressure is the leading cause of strokes, it can cause blood vessels in the eye to rupture causing blindness, and it also can lead to kidney failure!

Luckily, scientists have found a simple solution to combating and preventing high blood pressure: Beet Juice

Scientists have performed numerous studies and found that many patients saw their blood pressure decrease after consuming beet juice.

Here is how it works, according to the article:
Nitrate in the beet juice is converted by bacteria living on the tongue into the chemical nitrite. Once it enters the stomach, it becomes nitric oxide or re-enters the blood stream as nitrite. The researchers found that blood pressure was at its lowest when the nitrite levels in the blood were at their highest.

The recommended use is two glasses of juice a day for the effects to take place.  If you want to learn about beet juice benefits, check out the Biotta website

Healthy Living is a Process...

Juice- A Natural Cure for Bad Breath!

Thursday, April 22, 2010 by Jennifer C
I think we can all agree that one of the worst social situations to find yourself is realizing that you, yourself, or someone you're talking to is having a case of bad breath...

While mints and gum are obviously the go-to response for many people, they provide minimal-to-no nutritional value.  Wouldn't it be convenient to conclude your lunch with a nutrient-rich drink that would also work to rid any chances of bad breath? Great news! There is a solution!

According to NaturalCures.com, juice can actually work very well in getting rid of bad breath!

The entry explains- The following fresh juice combinations can help alleviate bad breath symptoms and also help GI disturbances that may be a contributing factor: Carrot and celery with parsley, spinach, watercress, alfalfa, comfrey, or beet tops; wheat grass juice; green juice; and carrot, spinach, and cucumber.

It amazes me how the list of carrot juice benefits and celery juice benefits continue to grow and grow!  Also, the benefits of including beets and their juice in your diet seems like the smartest health decision you can make!

Check out these, and all of our other juices, on our website today!

Beets- One of the "Worlds Healthiest Foods"

Thursday, April 8, 2010 by Jennifer C
I was on the website WHFoods.com (Worlds Healthiest Foods) recently and was so excited to see a very long listing for one of our top selling juices- Beets!  If you have kept up with this blog, it is no surprise to you that we love our beets, and we love telling you about the health benefits that come with drinking Biotta's Organic Juice!

Here is a short excerpt from the article on WHFoods.com:

"...not only did protective antioxidant activity increase in the livers of beet fiber-fed animals, but also their total cholesterol dropped 30%, their triglycerides dropped 40% (elevated triglycerides, the form in which fats are transported in the blood, are a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease), and their HDL (beneficial cholesterol) level increased significantly."

Beet juice benefits many areas of the body, and heart health is no exception.  In fact, many scientists claim that beets could be one of the best foods you can eat for heart health!

Convinced?  Hop over to our website and see where you can order a bottle today!

The American Heart Association: Don't Forget About the Kids

Monday, April 5, 2010 by Jennifer C
Did you know that obesity is the number one concern for children in America today?  Parents are more concerned about that than they are drugs or smoking.  As health problems for children continue to grow, so does the emphasis on parents to make sure to intervene and make sure their children are living healthy lifestyles.

The American Heart Association provides many helpful resources to parents that help create a healthy environment for their children.  They give a list of ways to help teach your children about making healthy decisions...
  1. Be a role model- Your children are learning from you!  No, you don't always have to do everything perfect, but just keep in mind that you are the example they are learning from.
  2. Keep the family moving- Plan ways to get everyone active together.  Maybe a family walk, or yard work.
  3. Pick rewarding rewards- Don't make TV or video games a reward, give them healthy rewards that will benefit their bodies.
  4. Stay involved-  Be an advocate!  Teach your children and other children.  Provide a way for them to learn and grow in knowledge.
It's important to remember that Biotta Juices are not just for "grown-ups."  The same health benefits that you find in our heart healthy juice can help your children too.

Maybe instead of sugary, artificially flavored juice in the morning you give your kids a glass of Biotta's Breakfast Blend?  Or a glass of Beet Juice that will help boost their immune system and provide them with many of the vitamins they need!

Beet Juice is Perfect for Athletes

Tuesday, March 30, 2010 by Jennifer C
Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld is a big fan of beets.  He has reported on Fox News about the long list of benefits of beet juice and during one clip he talks about the benefits athletes can find drinking beet juice.

"If you take two glasses of beet juice a day," says Rosenfeld, "and you're an athlete or a would be athlete, or if you're elderly and need more energy, two glasses of beet juice a day will increase your energy level significantly...  What it does is it increases the oxygen demand when you're exercising."

Beets are full of nitrates that cause this to happen.  By drinking a couple of glasses, you will be in a better position to work out than with simply hydrating (although you should never omit water from you diet).

If you're looking for more benefits, I recommend checking out some other blog posts we have about the amazing results from drinking Biotta's beet juice!

Why Juice?

Sunday, March 21, 2010 by Jennifer C
Some people may wonder, "Why drink juice? Why not just eat the fruits and vegetables that I normally would be eating?"  Although there is nothing wrong with eating your mashed potatoes or steamed carrots, there are juicing benefits!

According to Rasham Nassar in her article 'Juice Appeal lets you eat your vegetables with a straw,' we have lost a great deal of nutrients in our food thanks to a poor diet and lack of exercise. "When we blend our fruits and vegetables," Nassar says, "we are in a sense bypassing the processing of digestion, going straight from sippy cup to bloodstream, therefore eliminating the risk of a possible loss of valuable vitamins and minerals in our diets."
Rasham makes some very good points.  Drinking organic vegetable juice ensures that we are getting every bit of the nutritional benefits packed inside.  There is no room for vitamins or minerals to get lost in the process.

Biotta's vegetable juice line contains the following juices- Beet, Carrot, Celery, Potato, Sauerkraut, and our Vegetable Juice Cocktail.  To find more information on these juices, check out our vegetable products page on our website!

Amazing Results from a Study on Beet Juice

Friday, March 19, 2010 by Jennifer C
Recently, a group of scientists started researching the effect of beet juice on cancerous cells.  The study found that beet juice has a particularly strong attack on cells that can become colon cancer.

According to the research:

In one study, animals under the double stress of chemically induced colon cancer and high cholesterol were divided into two groups. One group received a diet high in beet fiber while the other group served as a control. The beet fiber-fed animals rose to the challenge by increasing their activity of two antioxidant enzymes in the liverglutathione peroxidase and glutathione-S-transferase. They are the bodyguards for liver cells, protecting them from free radical attack, so they can continue to protect us.

In other animal studies, scientists have noted that animals fed beet fiber had an increase in their number of colonic CD8 cells, special immune cells responsible for detecting and eliminating abnormal cells. With the increased surveillance provided by these additional CD8 cells, the animals in one of the studies given beet fiber had fewer pre-cancerous changes.

Beet Juice benefits your body's health in a countless number of ways.  Did you know that it is just about the most heart healthy juice you can find!?

Replace Diet Soda with Beet Juice

Saturday, March 13, 2010 by Jennifer C
So yesterday, I talked about putting down the empty calories/sugar-laden soda and replace it with Biotta's vitamin and mineral-rich vegetable juices.  Here is some more information in support of that - even if you are drinking DIET soda:

Registered dietitian Patti Milligan recently did an interview with an Alabama news station where she gave her expert opinion on drinking healthy beverages.

While most people think that switching to diet soda is the biggest step to losing weight, Patti disagrees.  "The amount of chemicals in diet soda really play havoc with the metabolic furnace - which is your liver. It does not crank up metabolism," Milligan explained.

The truth is, if you want to move toward a healthier diet, you're going to have to drink more nutritious beverages throughout the day.  She listed five drinks to consider switching to.  One of the juices she emphasized the most- Beet Juice!

"The compounds in [beet juice] are related to nitrates and they seem to help convert in the body a better utilization of our oxygen," Milligan said.

We are so excited to see beet juice getting the love it deserves!  We have known for years just how much beet juice benefits the body's immune system and circulatory system... When are you going to find out for yourself?

Too many options? BLEND them all together!

Tuesday, March 9, 2010 by Jennifer C
The only problem you could face going through our product list is trying to decide just which one of our heart healthy juice you would like to incorporate into your diet... For those of you who might struggle with this, why not start off with a delicious vegetable juice cocktail from Biotta?

What's in our vegetable juice cocktail?
  • Tomatoes- Tomatoes include lycopene and according to Livestrong.com, "Lycopene gives the tomato its red color and has been found to have antioxidant and cancer-preventing properties."
  • Carrots- "The high traces of beta carotene boost the anti-oxidant properties of carrot juice. It is the beta carotene that converts into vitamin A inside the body. The vitamin A fights to eliminate the free radicals in the body and hence fights cancer." (Home Remedies for You)
  • Celery- According to Naturalnews.com, celery juice lowers cholesterol, aids in digestion, is a diuretic, an anti inflammatory, lowers blood pressure, as well as many more health benefits!
  • Beets- Just check out this previous Biotta blog post on the benefits of drinking beet juice, including its heart healthy and cancer fighting qualities.

Body cleanse with beets? It's true!

Sunday, March 7, 2010 by Jennifer C
Beet juice has always been referred to as a cleansing juice.  It helps to clean out everything from your kidneys to your blood and your liver.  Beet juice benefits your blood pressure as well!  Many studies believe that beet juice helps to lower blood pressure when drank regularly.

Did you know that drinking beet juice is actually more beneficial than eating the beet itself?  Fact!  When you eat the beet, the fibers you ingest actually slow down the effect of the juice and minimize its impact.  But when you drink the fresh juice, you receive the maximum benefits!

Check out Biottajuices.com for more info about how you can incorporate beet juice into your diet today!

The Benefits of Cutting Out Caffeine! (A multi-part series)

Saturday, March 6, 2010 by Jennifer C
This is the first part of a multi-segment series on the health benefits of cutting caffeine out of your diet.

As you may know, all* of Biotta's organic vegetable juice, fruit juice, and blends are 100% caffeine free!  We are dedicated to providing the most healthy juice possible and we know that cutting caffeine is an easy starting point...

Fact #1: Caffeine can prevent your body from absorbing vitamins and minerals.

According to Dr. Dan Rutherford on NetDoctor.co.uk, "[Caffeine] can increase the excretion of vitamins and minerals from the body, so you won't get the full benefits of healthy foods." When you fill your diet with caffeinated drinks, you are making it more difficult for your body to use all the vitamins and minerals you ingest every day.

Think about it, for every cup of coffee or soda you drink, you can easily be canceling out that healthy breakfast/lunch/dinner you tried to have.  And according to Dr. Rutherford, it can take up to 18 hours for caffeine to completely leave your system, meaning it is with you for the entire day.

Like I mentioned earlier, every one* of Biotta's juices is caffeine free.  For more nutrition information on our elderberry juice, beet juice, or any of our other juices, check out Products page here!

(In the next "Benefits of Cutting Out Caffeine" post- Heart Rate & Energy)

*Biotta Energy Drink does contain natural caffeine from Guarana.

Are you Drinking Empty Calories?

Friday, February 19, 2010 by Sara Cox
When we think of calories, we think of them coming from the foods we eat.  When you have a medium cafe latte with whole milk with breakfast, then a 20 oz. regular soda ad lunch, and a 16 oz. sweetened iced tea with lemon mid-day, and glass of wine at dinner, that doesn't sound unreasonable, does it?  After all, they are liquid!

Those 4 beverages amont to 800 calories - or 40% of an average 2,000 calorie daily diet.  And although they keep you hydrated throughout the day, these 800 calories are EMPTY calories.

Sodas, coffee, tea...there is no nutritional benefit to any of these beverages, yet they seem to pack on the calories.  Drinking a 100% organic pure juice, like Biotta Juice, however, will provide you with the same calories, but with the added benefit of vitamins, minerals and other health benefits, like blood pressure lowering properties of our Beet Juice, and soothing an upset stomach like our Potato Juice.

Juice drinks and waters are often enhanced with vitamins and herbs.  Although at first glance they seem like a healthy alternative to soda, but how much sugar and artificial flavoring doe they contain?

Biotta Juices are 100% pure - not from concentrate and never diluted.  They are packed full of all natural nutrients, and come in 2 sizes of convenient, recyclable glass bottles.

Remember what your mom told you...

Friday, February 5, 2010 by Jennifer C
I was no different than most kids growing up.  When my mom told me that I needed to eat my vegetables before I could leave the table, I scowled at her and forced them down... one by one.  At that point in my life, I could not see the benefits that could come from them.

Funny how things change when you grow up... In just a quick glance over Biotta's fresh juices, you can see that they have a wide selection of vegetable juices that are both nutritious and delicious.  Biotta offers healthy juices made from carrots, celery, sauerkraut (cabbage), and beets.  Studies have been released about the health benefits of each of these amazing vegetables!

Looking for more benefits from vegetable juices?  Check out the vegetable juice section on Biotta's website.
