The Juice – Your Questions Answered

Friday, January 1, 2010 by Sara Cox

Every day, we field questions about our Biotta juices—ingredients, potential health benefits, our proprietary manufacturing process, distribution, etc.  We thought that, if a few people are asking these questions, then perhaps many of you would be interested in the answers as well.  When you see our blog featuring The Juice – Your Questions Answered, you’ll know we are answering consumer questions about our 100% organic juices that may be relevant to you.

QUESTION:
I see sugar as one of the ingredients of your Elderberry Juice and Breakfast Juice.  Do your juices include added sugar?

ANSWER:
Elderberry juice is the only juice where we add sugar—organic cane sugar.  We add it because the elderberry has a very strong, bitter taste without the added sugar.  Elderberry Juice has 34 g of sugar in total; 10.5 g are naturally occurring, and 23.5g are added.

Our Breakfast Juice also lists 22.5g sugar, but all of the sugar content is naturally occurring from the ingredients of the product; there is no sugar added.  Our vegetable juices also contain sugar, but they are all naturally occurring.

The Juice – Your Questions Answered

Every day, we field questions about our Biotta juices—ingredients, potential health benefits, our proprietary manufacturing process, distribution, etc.  We thought that, if a few people are asking these questions, then perhaps many of you would be interested in the answers as well.  When you see our blog featuring The Juice, you’ll know we are answering consumer questions about our 100% organic juices that may be relevant to you.

Question: What type of tea is used in Biotta juices?

Answer: Three of our juices—Biotta Energy Drink, Breakfast Cocktail and our Elderberry Juice—contain small amounts of tea, used primarily to balance the strong or tart flavors of the fruit juices to make them more appealing.  Different teas are used for each of these juices.

Biotta Energy Drink has Paraguay Tea infusion.  Paraguay Tea comes from a “large, white-flowered shrub grows wild near streams, largely cultivated in South America for the drink obtained by infusing the leaves. The consumption in South America is vast, as it is drunk at every meal and hour.”  The tea is a diuretic and diaphoretic (an agent that produces perspiration).*

Biotta Breakfast Juice includes green tea.  Green tea originates from China and has become associated with many cultures in Asia from Japan to the Middle East.**   The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times. “Today, scientific research in both Asia and the west is providing hard evidence for the health benefits long associated with drinking green tea. For example, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.***

Biotta Elderberry Juice contains tea extracted from the elder flower.  Elder flowers are traditionally used to treat influenza, colds, mucus, sinusitis, feverish illnesses and other upper respiratory tract problems, as well as hay fever. ****

What’s in a Label?

Wednesday, November 11, 2009 by George Pappas
Do you ever get confused when you look at labels?  Juice labels, for instance, can sport many terms, including “fresh squeezed,” “from concentrate,” “100% pure,” “fresh frozen” and “not from concentrate.”  What do these labels tell you about the quality of the juice and exactly what you are buying?

The Food and Drug Administration offers these guidelines:

•    "100% Pure" or "100% Juice." This label guarantees that the product is 100 percent fruit juice, complete with all its nutrients. Only 100 percent juice can be labeled "juice."  If a bottle contains mixed juices, it can only be labeled "100 percent juice" if each of the juices added to the mixture is, itself, a 100 percent juice.**

•    "Cocktail," "Punch," "Drink," "Beverage," “Blend,” “Sparkler.”  If you see these labels, you know that the products are diluted, containing less than 100 percent juice. They often have added sweeteners. These products might contain as little as 10 percent or as much as 99 percent juice. The rest is water or added sweeteners. Check the label to find out how much juice such products contain. As with all labels, ingredients must be listed on the label in order of volume.**

•    "Fresh Squeezed Juice." This label means the juice has been squeezed from fresh fruit. It is not pasteurized and is usually located in the produce or dairy section of the grocery store. Be cautious about offering non-pasteurized juice to children, older adults or others with compromised immune systems.

•    "From Concentrate." This label tells you that water has been removed from whole juice to make concentrate; then water is added back to reconstitute to 100 percent juice or to diluted juice such as lemonade. When water is added back to the concentrate, the product is labeled "reconstituted" or "made from concentrate" and has the same nutrition profile as the original juice. "**

•    "Not From Concentrate." This juice has never been concentrated.

•    "Fresh Frozen." Juice with this label has been freshly squeezed, packaged and frozen without pasteurization or further processing. It is usually sold in plastic bottles in the frozen food section of the grocery store and is ready to drink after thawing.*

•    “Fortified.”  “Fruit juice is sometimes enhanced with nutrients intended to provide health benefits because juice is convenient, has good flavor, and is inherently associated with good health. Juices may be fortified with extra vitamins (such as vitamin C), minerals (such as calcium), cholesterol-lowering sterols, and, increasingly, omega-3 fatty acids. Such juices may be a good idea if they're fortified with nutrients you don't obtain enough of in your normal diet.”**

Biotta juices are 100% organic, not made from concentrate.  Since our company began in 1957, we’ve been committed to using only the finest organically grown fruits and vegetables.  Every fruit and vegetable we use is grown in chemical-free, fertilizer-free and toxic-free land—land that has been organically farmed for more than half a century.  All of our fruits and vegetables are vine/field-ripened and are selected using the highest standards in relation to flavor and content.

Biotta takes great care to protect the natural wholesomeness and taste of all our ingredients.  Instead of pressing the fruits and vegetables, which can cause some loss of nutritional value, we use a decanting process of centrifugation to pull the juice out.  Then, we pasteurize the juice at low heat levels to retain the high nutritional value, bottle our juices in recyclable glass bottles for full flavor retention, label and send.  No other company takes more care to deliver a 100% organic product.

Here is how Biotta’s Juices stack up:

100% Juice
Beet Juice
Carrot Juice
Vegetable Juice Cocktail (in this case, the 'cocktail' denotes a blend of vegetable juices)
Bruess® Vegetable Juice
Celery Juice
Sauerkraut Juice
Potato Juice

Fruit juices are typically too tart or strong to consume at 100% juice.  Therefore, we blend our organic fruit juices with other juices as well as tea extracts to make them more palatable.

87% Juice
Energy Drink

74% Juice
Breakfast Juice

70% Juice
Elderberry Juice

Biotta Juices are Allergen-Free*

Thursday, October 8, 2009 by George Pappas

Did you know that approximately 12 million Americans have food allergies?  That’s one person in every 25.  And children don’t even fare that well—one in 17 children under age three has a food allergy.**

What is a Food Allergy?
A food allergy is an immune system response to a food that the body mistakenly believes is harmful.  When you have a food allergy and you eat the offending food, the body may react by releasing chemicals, including histamine, resulting in an allergic reaction. Symptoms can range from mild (rashes, hives, itching, swelling, etc.) to severe (trouble breathing, wheezing, loss of consciousness, etc.). Symptoms typically appear within minutes to two hours after the person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic.  A food allergy can be life-threatening.

Allergies can occur to any food.  However, there are eight foods that account for 90% of all food-allergic reactions. These are milk, egg, peanut, tree nut (walnut, cashew, etc.), fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat.**

Food Allergy or Food Intolerance?
Many people mistake the two.  The difference is this: a food intolerance doesn’t involve the immune system, and it is not life-threatening.  A food allergy occurs when the immune system reacts to a certain food; it can be life-threatening.**

Biotta Juices are Allergen-Free
In regards to the eight most common food allergies listed above, all Biotta juices (with the exception of our Breakfast Drink) are 100% allergen-free.  That means that, even if you suffer from a serious food allergy to the top 8 food allergens, you can rest assured that drinking all-natural Biotta juices will not trigger an allergic reaction.  Not only are our 100% organic juices good for you, they are completely safe for people with mild or severe food allergies.

The Food Pyramid - One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 by Sara Cox
We’ve all seen the food pyramid, detailing how many servings of each food group a person needs to consume in one day.  Now, even the food pyramid is changing!  In April 2005, the USDA released the MyPyramid food guidance system. Along with the new MyPyramid symbol, the system provides many options to help Americans make healthy food choices and to be active every day.

The Dietary Guidelines give science-based advice on food and physical activity choices for health. The guidelines define a healthy diet as one that:
  • Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products;
  • Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts; and
  • Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.*

You can use these guidelines to make smart food choices, find a good balance between food and physical activity, get the most nutrition out of the calories you consume, and stay within your daily calorie needs.

MyPyramid Plan
The site will help you customize your eating plan, taking into account such things as age, sex, height, weight and amount of physical activity.  Once your plan is customized, you can read further to find out more information regarding each of the food groups: grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, meat and beans, and oils.*

Fruits and Vegetables
http://www.mypyramid.gov/pyramid/vegetables.html and http://www.mypyramid.gov/pyramid/fruits.html are sub-tier pages of the site that spell out what is included in the fruit and vegetable groups, the average recommended daily amount for each group, and what constitutes a healthy serving.  The site is easy to navigate and chockfull of worthwhile information.

Biotta – A Great Way to “Eat” Your Fruits and Vegetables

Are Biotta Juices Vegan?

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 by George Pappas
If you are committed to a vegetarian or a vegan lifestyle and diet, Biotta can play an important part in helping you obtain the nutrients you need.  All of our 100% organic juices are vegan, with the exception of our Breakfast Juice, which is vegetarian.

For those of you who are not familiar with Vegan or Vegetarian diets - what’s the difference?  Well, in summary, neither vegans nor vegetarians eat meat, fish, or poultry.  Vegans, in addition to this, “do not eat or use other animal by-products such as eggs, dairy, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics and soaps derived from animal products.”*

The Vegan Diet
The key to a sound diet for both vegetarians and vegans is variety, making sure they consume the needed amounts of protein, fat, vitamins and minerals.  A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grain products, nuts, seeds and legumes, is critical to good health and nutrition.

Biotta Fits Right In
Biotta’s all-natural juices not only fit into vegan and vegetarian diets, they are an easy way to supply your body with many of the nutrients it needs.  On our website, www.biottajuices.com, you’ll not only find a listing of all our products, but detailed product and nutritional information that tells you if the product is vegan, dairy-free, lactose-free, wheat-free, gluten-free and much more.

Not only do our products fit the vegetarian and vegan lifestyles, our philosophic foundation does as well.  We’re committed to all-natural farming and to delivering 100% organic juices to our customers.  Every fruit and vegetable we use is grown in land that has been organically farmed for half a century—no chemicals, no fertilizer, no toxins.  Biotta juices are natural original juices; they are not made from concentrate, and no artificial additives are used.  You can’t buy a fresher, more nutritious, purely organic juice than Biotta.

Casein-Free Diet Linked to Autism Treatment

Friday, August 28, 2009 by George Pappas
Last week, I wrote about the benefits of a gluten- and casein-free diet as it pertains to a number of illnesses, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  This diet has also been found to be beneficial for many people suffering from any of a number of autistic spectrum disorders, including autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, atypical autism and pervasive developmental disorder.* Biotta’s all-natural juices fit perfectly in this diet plan since all of our juices (with the exception of our Breakfast Drink) are completely gluten- and casein-free.**

Eliminating gluten and casein from your diet is recommended by many physicians for neurodevelopmental disorders as well as a number of chronic illnesses.  Gluten is mainly found in wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats.  The main sources of casein are milk, cheese, yogurt, cream, butter and ice cream.

Proponents of a gluten-and casein-free diet for children with autism explain that many autistic children have gastrointestinal problems that make it difficult to digest milk and milk protein.  Milk protein leads to high levels of casomorphines and these can affect behavior as a drug would—perhaps reducing the desire for social interaction and increasing confusion.***

Is the Diet Effective in Treating Autism?
Currently, no double-blind studies have been conducted about the efficacy of this diet in treating autism.  However, several open studies in the US and Europe provide positive data in this regard.*

For example, one study was entitled “A Randomized, Controlled Study of Dietary Intervention in Autistic Syndromes” and was featured in a 2002 issue of Nutritional Neuroscience, an international journal on Nutrition, Diet and Nervous System.  It showed that when autistic children with abnormally high protein by-products in their urine were fed a gluten- and casein-free diet for 12 months, the group had significantly fewer autistic symptoms than the remaining children, who were not fed this diet.***

While the results are not conclusive, many studies concerning the gluten- and casein-free elimination diet are encouraging.  The current belief is that there is evidence that this diet can significantly help some children with autism.

Biotta’s Organic Juices Fit Right In
If you are interested in implementing a gluten- and casein-free diet, Biotta Juices can be a permanent part of the solution.  They can help you get the nutrition (vitamins and minerals) you need to enjoy a balanced, healthy diet.  Want more information about Biotta juices?  If you’re a consumer and want to know where to find our juices, click on the beet juice icon on the right.  If you’re a retailer that already carries our juices, click the carrot juice icon to be included in our retailer directory.  If you have any other questions, just email us.

Biotta Juices are Gluten- and Casein-Free*

Monday, August 24, 2009 by George Pappas
There is a lot of interest today in gluten-free and casein-free diets, which eliminate these naturally occurring proteins.  Gluten is mainly found in wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats.  The main sources of casein are milk, cheese, yogurt, cream, butter and ice cream..  The gluten-free, casein-free diet has become one of the most popular diets for a host of conditions, including autism and irritable bowel syndrome.**  Biotta juices fit perfectly in this diet plan since all of our juices (with the exception of our Breakfast Drink) are completely gluten- and casein-free.

The Gluten-free, Casein-free Diet
Why and when is this diet recommended?  “Alternative healthcare practitioners often recommend the gluten-free, casein-free diet to patients, as do a relatively small number of medical doctors who specialize in the treatment of particular conditions. ”**

Eliminating casein from your diet may seem like a daunting task, since milk and its by-products are in so many processed foods.  But, there are a number of great alternatives.  Dairy-free milk includes Rice, Almond, Soy, Oat and Coconut.  Most people can get used to—and even may prefer—these milk substitutes on their cereal and in cooking.  There are also a growing number of alternatives to other dairy foods.  For example, vegan cheese and soy-based ice cream are now available in many health food stores and supermarkets.

The one concern when implementing this diet is that you consume enough calcium, since milk is such a major source of this important mineral.  Alternative sources for calcium include almonds, parsley, corn, and pumpkin seeds.**

Treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Next week, we’ll examine the gluten-free, casein-free diet as it pertains to autism.  But autism isn’t the only health issue for which this diet is being recommended.  Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) affects up to 55 million Americans, mostly women. IBS symptoms include diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal cramps.***  The gluten-free casein-free diet is being found effective by many people in treating and controlling this disease.  There is quite a bit of research to indicate that this elimination diet is helpful because “milk, wheat and eggs were most frequently identified to cause symptom exacerbation.”**

Whatever your reasons for implementing a gluten-free casein-free diet, Biotta Juices fit right in.  Want more information about Biotta juices?  If you’re a consumer and want to know where to find our juices, click on the beet juice icon on the right.  If you’re a retailer that already carries our juices, click the carrot juice icon to be included in our retailer directory.  If you have any other questions, just email us.

Drink Gluten-Free

Monday, August 17, 2009 by George Pappas
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye and barley.  It can cause people serious health problems, including celiac disease and wheat allergies.*  Celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten. Gluten is found mainly in foods but may also be found in everyday products such as medicines, vitamins, and lip balms.**

Gaining Popularity
People with allergies to gluten are not the only ones seeking a gluten-free diet.  In an article entitled “Gluten-free diets gaining in popularity,” which appeared in USA Today, author Kim Painter suggests that gluten-free products are on the rise in the general population as well.  Research, she says, shows that 15-25% of consumers want gluten-free foods, though doctors estimate only about one percent of the population has celiac disease.***

Actually, though only 110,000 Americans have been diagnosed with gluten intolerance, it is estimated that, if everyone who really has it was diagnosed, the number would be three million!  People who do not have gluten intolerance can have some sensitivity to gluten, causing symptoms that range from bloating to rashes.***

Even people with no symptoms are leaning towards gluten-free foods, such as fruits and vegetables, because they just feel better when they eat fewer processed foods.

Biotta Juices – Gluten-free
All Biotta vegetables and fruit juices—with the exception our Breakfast Juice—are completely gluten-free.  They are completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals, as well as the use of gluten as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent.
Biotta fruit and vegetable juices are 100% organic—grown organically and process in a closed manufacturing environment to retain and preserve valuable nutrients, vitamins and minerals.  You can’t buy a fresher juice—and, if you are watching your gluten intake, Biotta juices are a great way to get some of your recommended daily allotment of fruits and veggies.

Monday, August 3, 2009 by Sara Cox
We love when customers write to tell us how much they love Biotta juices.  But, when they write articles about our juices and put them on their blogs, that’s SUPER FANTASTIC!  You can check out http://www.fitandfabulouslife.com/2009/07/02/biotta-juice-review/ to read what Melinda has to say, or check out the excerpt below.

Biotta sent a variety of juices to Melinda for her to review.  Melinda is a freelance writer who hopes to have a career as a food/nutrition writer and blogger.

Here is what Melinda has to say about Biotta juices:

I loved all of the juices that Biotta sent for me to review, but my favorite was between the Vegetable Juice Cocktail and the Breakfast Juice- wowza, these were delicious!

I also liked the Beet Juice; it had a sweet flavor and you could tell that this was pure beets! I loved the Carrot Juice mixed in with my apple and cucumber juice- it kicked it up a notch!

Biotta juices have also been featured on The View.  Whoopi Goldberg, who is known to hate veggies, has fallen in love with these drinks!

I personally love that not only are Biotta juices organic but also RAW! I’m one happy girl right now.

Fortified/Functional Foods: Food, Natural Health Product or Drug?

Monday, July 20, 2009 by George Pappas
Functional (or fortified) foods—foods with specific health-enhancing characteristics—are gaining in popularity.  They include breakfast cereals that are said to ward off heart disease, orange juice with omega-3 fatty acids derived from Peruvian sardines, and chocolate bars aimed at improving intestinal activity.

In development are even more options: cheese made with cholesterol-lowering plant steroids and a calorie-free probiotic sweetener and amino-acid energy drink to target joint health.*

Food, Natural Health Products or Drugs?
But, as these products become more numerous and more popular, the question is arising, “Are these products foods, natural health products or drugs?”  This topic is becoming more problematic as our country tries to determine where food ends and where drugs begin.

Take Cheerios, for example.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration ruled that the way Cheerios is marketed makes it a drug because the health claims on the package imply the cereal “is intended for use in the prevention, mitigation and treatment of disease.”**

Canada’s Rulings
The FDA’s ruling on Cheerios is similar to one in Canada, where a popular brand of orange juice was for years classified as a drug because of its calcium fortification.  Sylvain Charlebois, a leading expert on food safety, said, “This is medication through food, without going to see the doctor.  The politics around it are getting really complicated.”**

In America, we’re only scratching the surface of this multi-billion dollar trend.  As baby boomers seek natural ways to better their health, this trend seems destined to continue.  But, says Bill Jeffery, national coordinator of the Centre for Science in the Public Interest in Ottawa, “If consumers really want to improve their eating, they should pay attention to the broad claims that Health Canada has already authorized … such as (the fact that) diets rich in fruits and vegetable help reduce your risk of certain cancers.”

All-Natural Biotta Juices

Fortified/Functional Foods: Can You Have Too Much of a Good Thing?

Friday, July 17, 2009 by George Pappas
Pasta with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, normally found in fish.  Probiotics in salsa.  Soda with vitamins.  Ketchup with additives to aid in digestive wellness.  Even marshmallows infused with skin-boosting collagen.

Functional foods—also called fortified foods—refer to “designer foods or ones that have been modified to incorporate nutrients they wouldn’t normally contain for a specific health purpose.”*

Consumer Reaction
These foods abound in our supermarkets and consumers are eating them up—literally.  In 2008, functional foods made up a $30.7 billion market, according to the research firm Packaged Facts.  And that number is predicted to grow by 40% over the next five years.**

When 1,000 consumers were surveyed by the International Food Information Council Foundation in late 2005, 83% of respondents said they were interested in learning more about foods that offer health benefits beyond basic nutrition.*

Fortified Foods Are Not New
When was the first fortified food introduced?  In 1924, iodine was first added to salt in Michigan to help reduce the prevalence of goiter in that state.  Soon, the success of this measure led to voluntary iodization in the entire country.  And we’ve been buying milk fortified with vitamin D since the 1930s to prevent rickets.

Are Fortified Foods Worth It?
But can you have too much of a good thing?  That’s the question that comes to the forefront when talking about fortified/functional foods.  Cynthia Sass, a spokeswoman for the American Diabetic Association, said, “The idea of a supplement or fortified food is to fill a gap, to bring a person up to the recommended intake.  If you’re already at the recommended intake, it’s not going to do anything for you.  It may work against you.”*  Exceeding recommended doses of vitamin C, for example, can cause diarrhea, upset stomach and kidney stones.

Consider All-Natural Biotta Juices
While functional foods can be helpful, what better way to get your vitamins and minerals than the natural way?  With Biotta, you can get the full amount of your fruits and vegetables with 100% organic fruit and vegetable juices.  We offer a wide variety of vegetable juices: Beet Juice, Carrot Juice, Celery Root Juice, Potato Juice, Sauerkraut Juice, Vegetable Juice Cocktail and Breuss® Vegetable Juice.  Fruit juices include Bilberry Juice, Elderberry Juice, our Breakfast Juice Cocktail and Energy Drink.

Juice Therapy – Part 1 – Start your Day with a Good Breakfast

Sunday, July 5, 2009 by George Pappas

Want to drink yourself to better health?  Biotta’s 100% organic juices can help.  Consider the potential health benefits of these fruits:

Oranges

Oranges, found in Biotta Breakfast Drink, are high in citric acid.  The high vitamin C content gives them the property of a mild laxative, which makes this a great choice for people suffering from constipation.  Orange consumption can also be useful for people who suffer from asthma and other respiratory problems.*

Grapes
Also found in Biotta’s Breakfast Drink, grapes are chock full of nutrients.  Grapes have shown promise as a preventive measure for a number of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and age-associated diseases like Alzheimer’s.**  Grape juice is a great source of vitamins A, C and B6.  And, when it comes to minerals, grape juice brings potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron and selenium to the table.

Bananas
And let’s not forget about the health benefits of bananas, also found in our Breakfast Drink.  Bananas contain a high dose of potassium, so they are good for your heart and nervous systems, as well as your kidneys and bones.  Bananas are rich in vitamin B6, which helps the body make hemoglobin, a crucial element in your blood.  They are a great source of dietary fiber, and are often recommended for children with intestinal problems, like diarrhea.***

Biotta’s Breakfast Drink is available in 8.4 fl. oz. bottles.

The pH Factor

Wednesday, July 1, 2009 by Sara Cox
Our diets are often too acidic.  Acidity can make us tired and less productive, with a reduced feeling of well-being.  High levels of acidity can lead to feelings of stress, nervousness, lack of energy, decreased concentration and a higher risk of infection.*

British Journal of Nutrition Study
A recent study in the British Journal of Nutrition showed a strong link between acidic diets and increased risk of being overweight, having elevated blood pressure, and raised cholesterol.  Acidity has also been linked to cancer, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue and even poor skin quality.**

How can you reduce acidity?
With all the adverse effects acidity can have in the body, how can we balance our internal chemistry?  The article states, “Acid is caused by stress, overly strenuous exercise, lack of rest and too much fried food, meat, cola, alcohol, sugar, dairy, coffee and more.”

Sound like your diet?  Well, you can adjust your internal chemistry by consuming more alkaline-producing fruits and vegetables.  And that’s where Biotta comes in.

Biotta can help!
What better way to get the full amount of your fruits and vegetables than with 100% organic fruit and vegetable juices from Biotta.  We offer a wide variety of vegetable juices: Beet Juice, Carrot Juice, Celery Root Juice, Potato Juice, Sauerkraut Juice, Vegetable Juice Cocktail and Breuss® Vegetable Juice.  Fruit juices include Bilberry Juice, Elderberry Juice, Breakfast Juice and Energy Drink.

‘Cheers’ to Fruit Juice and Your Health

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 by Sara Cox
It’s a proven fact.  Drinking fruit juice boosts your health.  A recent U.S. study concluded that one glass of 100% fruit juice every day can help protect again stroke, heart disease and diabetes, as well as aid weight loss.  The study showed that juice drinkers were leaner, had lower risk of obesity, and were less prone to metabolic syndrome (defined as three or more of the following: obesity; low HDL-cholesterol; elevated blood pressure, blood glucose and fasting triglycerides). Compared to people who do not drink fruit juice, the juice drinkers had a lower body mass index, lower insulin resistance, and a smaller waist measurement.  The study also showed that the risk for obesity was 22% lower among fruit juice drinkers.*

More than 14,000 people, age 19 or older, participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999-2004), conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In addition, the research showed that people who drink 100% pure fruit juice daily generally exhibit other healthy behaviors, such as higher physical activity levels, better diets, lower fat and sugar intake, and a higher fiber intake.

Biotta produces USDA all natural, organic juices, available in 16.9 and 8.4 fl. oz. recyclable glass bottles. Our fruit juices include Breakfast Juice, Bilberry Juice, Elderberry Juice, and our Energy Drink.

Biotta Juices for Diabetics

Wednesday, May 20, 2009 by Sara Cox
Diabetics can enjoy all the benefits of Biotta juices, providing they count the carbohydrates in their individual diet plans.  Biotta’s pure organic juices provide the body with vital nutrients, essential to the person with diabetes.

Which Biotta juices are best for diabetics?

Highly Recommended

All Biotta pure organic vegetable juices, except Potato (high in starch).  These juices are very low in carbohydrates but high in vitamins, minerals and essential phytonutrients.

Recommended

Biotta Breakfast Juice, Biotta Energy Drink, and Biotta Potato.  These beverages are slightly higher in carbohydrates than pure vegetable juices.  However, these carbohydrates are derived solely from the fruits and vegetables themselves and do not contain any added sugar.  The sugar profile of these juices shows a high amount of fructose, which is more suitable for diabetics than glucose.

Recommended in Limited Quantities

Biotta Bilberry and Elderberry Juices.  When consuming these juices, it is recommended that people with diabetes dilute the beverages with water or mineral water.

Biotta’s pure organic juices are available in 16.9 and 8.4 fl. oz. recyclable glass bottles.

Juices or Juicing?

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 by George Pappas

We all know that getting the USDA recommended levels of fruits and vegetables in our diets is important. We can get them by eating them raw or cooked, or by drinking 100% pure organic juice.

Does it matter if you buy juice or juice the fruits and vegetables yourself? In many cases, the juices you purchase are not 100% USDA organic juices like Biotta juices are. So, let’s think about what is involved in juicing your own fruits and vegetables.

First, you have to choose your vegetables carefully. You want to be sure the fruits and vegetables you choose are fresh. You should juice the vegetables right before drinking; prolonged storage of even a day can damage the juice. You need to be careful about switching the juices you drink; if you keep drinking the same juice, you may develop an allergy towards it. You have to wash your vegetables carefully and clean up your juicer after each use. That’s a lot of work for a fresh glass of fruit or vegetable juice.*

Biotta’s organic juices are made from naturally grown fruit and vegetables. Our fruits and vegetables are farmed on chemical-, fertilizer- and toxic-free land. All fruits and vegetables are vine/field-ripened and are selected using the highest quality standards. We use a special manufacturing process to seal in the freshness, pasteurize the juices to retain the high nutritional value, and use glass bottles for full flavor and nutrient protection.

All of our juices are UDSA organic juices. We offer a wide variety of fruit and vegetable juices, including:

Vegetable Juices                                           Fruit Juices

Beet Juice                                                       Bilberry Juice

Breuss® Vegetable Juice                               Breakfast Juice

Carrot Juice                                                    Elderberry Juice

Celery Root Juice                                           Energy Drink

Potato Juice

Sauerkraut Juice

Vegetable Juice Cocktail

You can juice your own, or you can enjoy the convenience and peace of mind knowing that you are getting a 100% organic, fresh, high-quality juice from Biotta.
