Fruit Juice

A Healthier Cocktail

Wednesday, October 20, 2010 by Jennifer C
There are two things I know for sure:

1.) Over 70% of Americans are not getting their daily recommended amount of fruits

and

2.) Almost everyone loves happy hour.

While these are seemingly two unrelated topics, I have found a way to solve both of these issues into one, easy-to-make and delicious drink.  The benefits that come from Biotta's breakfast juice are endless, and at only 120 calories a bottle, it is considerably better on the waistline than drinking soda or other fruit juices.  By using this juice as a way to mix up a good cocktail, you are getting to enjoy your happy hour and giving your body the nutrients it needs at the same time.

The simplest and most tasty concoction that I have found is mixing 2 cups of Biotta's breakfast juice with 1 oz of vodka and stir.  To jazz it up, adorn the rim of the glass with an orange slice and there you have it, a refreshing and healthier cocktail that's easy to make.

Going organic...

Tuesday, September 14, 2010 by Natalie Hadley
I'll admit, when I started drinking Biotta Juices, that was the first step I made toward support the organic movement.  I was never opposed to going organic, I just never took a step back to see how it would be helpful and what possible dangers existed in non-organic foods.

Now that I know more of the actual benefits that exist with supporting organic farmers, I catch myself leaning toward going organic in more foods.  If I see a head of cabbage that is organic right next to another non-organic head, it's an easy decision.

I know that it seems small, but I know that every small effort makes a big difference to a farmer who cares enough to grow organic.
The organic movement fits perfectly with a company like Biotta, they are always watching every aspect of the cultivation and harvesting of the fruits and veggies to make sure it is the healthiest drink possible for the consumer!

Their organic juices range from beet juice to carrot juice to potato juice and everything in between!  Check out the product page to see them all!

Enjoy the Juice!

More Evidence of Beet Juice Lowering Blood Pressure

Monday, September 13, 2010 by Jennifer C
Everywhere I've been turning lately I seem to be finding more and more evidence of the power behind eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.  Researchers at Queen Mary University of London recently published results claiming that drinking a couple glasses of beet juice can help to lower a person's blood pressure.

Here is an excerpt from an article published on BabyBoomerAdvisorClub.com that describes how beet juice helps to lower blood pressure:

"Mayo Clinic explains how nitrate works in the beet juice. It is converted by bacteria living on the tongue into the chemical nitrite. Once it enters the stomach, it becomes nitric oxide or in other words, it re-enters the blood stream as nitrite.

The researchers in the new study, have found that blood pressure was at its lowest when the nitrite levels in the blood were at their highest.

The nitrites then work by protecting against endothelial dysfunction, which means that blood vessels have trouble expanding or contracting to handle changes in blood flow. They also have anti-platelet properties."

The article also has advice for those who find the taste of beet juice to be a little strong- mix it with a tall glass of organic carrot juice!

My Advice to an Athlete...

Friday, August 20, 2010 by Jennifer C
Just a few days ago, I was having a conversation with a good friend of mine who happens to be a college athlete.  He said that he has been having constant debates with his coaches over what liquids he should be taking in during the season.  Just water? Just Gatorade? Artificially flavored fruit juice? They couldn't land on what would be the best route to take.

It was during this conversation that I kindly stopped him and gave him one recommendation- Beet Juice.  Obviously, you should never cut water, or other nutrient and enzyme building liquids from your diet, but once I explained to him the benefits that beet juice has on the body, I could see the wheels turning.

I don't know if it was my telling him that beets have been proven to boost energy and help people have the stamina to exercise 16% longer...

...or if it was my telling him that it
increases the amount of nitric oxide in the body.  That, in turn, helps blood vessels relax, lowers blood pressure and has anti-inflammatory benefits as well...

...or if it was my explanation of the high levels of calcium that helps improve bone health...

but SOMETHING sparked something in him and he asked, "Where do I buy beet juice??"

I said that there is only one place around that sells 100% Organic Beet Juice, and that is Biotta!  Think you're sold on the idea? Check out the website and see where you can order some today!

Faced with a (good) problem...

Wednesday, August 18, 2010 by Natalie Hadley
So this morning I was faced with a problem... but a good kind of problem.  I, for the life of me, could not decide which one of Biotta's delicious fresh juices to have with my breakfast.  I tend to lean toward the Breakfast Blend, which has always been a perfect way to start my day.  It is filled with different fruits to give a very filling, energizing breakfast.

Then I started thinking that I might want to have some elderberry juice.  I've had that feeling for a few days that I may be on the verge of getting sick and I could use a immune system boost.

But, when it was all said and done, I decided to go for one of my new favorites- 1/2 beet juice, 1/2 carrot juice!  It is SO good, and provides a very strong start to the day.

Obviously, I couldn't have gone wrong, they are all great tasting and great for me... but it was a nice change from the routine.

Enjoy the Juice!

Beet Juice During Pregnancy

Tuesday, August 17, 2010 by Jennifer C
It seems like the list of things pregnant mothers need to watch over and maintain for those long nine months just gets longer and longer.  Two major concerns that doctors tell pregnant women to keep an eye on are high blood pressure and anemia.  Did you know these two problems can be combated by one easy solution: Beet Juice!

High blood pressure during pregnancy (referred to as Pre-eclampsia) usually occurs around 20 weeks.  Drinking 4 oz. of beet juice daily around this time can help to balance the sodium/potassium ratio in your blood.*

Anemia is also a common problem women face during pregnancy.  Doctors recommend turning to foods high in iron to help prevent and combat the onset of anemia.  One of beet juice's most healthy attributes is its high levels of iron.

Obviously, drinking any of Biotta's organic vegetable juice and fruit juice would be beneficial during pregnancy.  You can check out this previous post on the benefits of carrot juice to nursing mothers!

Health Tip: Start Your Day With A Good Breakfast

Monday, August 16, 2010 by Jennifer C
Chances are you've heard it plenty of times by now, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day..."  Well, just because you have heard it so many times in your life doesn't make it any less true.

An article on MedicineNet.com offers a few pieces of advice that may help in promoting a strong breakfast routine in your house:
  • Fill your pantry with lots of healthy choices for breakfast.
  • The night before, try to get as much ready as possible for breakfast. Have dishes and flatware out, get fruit cut up, and prepare as much as possible in advance.
  • Wake everyone at least 10 minutes earlier than usual to make sure there's plenty of time to eat.
  • Encourage the kids to participate in planning and making breakfast.
  • Have quick, healthy breakfast options on hand when time has eluded you -- such as trail mix, yogurt, fruit or individual boxes of cereal.
One perfect addition into your breakfast routine would be Biotta Juices delicious Breakfast Blend.  The breakfast drink is packed full of fresh juices from oranges, grapes, and bananas.  Our Breakfast Blend will help you get a filling, nutritional breakfast and get your day started right!

Setting Goals Leads to Change!

Friday, August 13, 2010 by Jennifer C
I don't know about you, but I've always been someone who has been very "goal oriented." If I know exactly what I'm reaching toward when I start something, it makes it much easier to track my progress and find motivation to complete a certain task.  This can carry over into any area of life, from work, to relationships, to health.

According to Mind Tools, "By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals. You can see forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind. By setting goals, you will also raise your self-confidence, as you recognize your ability and competence in achieving the goals that you have set."

Simple things like physical activity and getting a solid amount of sleep can be the perfect place to start setting goals.

A healthy diet can also be a beneficial place to set goals.  I've written before about the recommended servings of fruits and veggies to include in your daily diet.  Keep track of how many servings you get in a day.  Or maybe try a weekly goal... If this is a big adjustment, start small and work your way up.

Remember, it is easier to count your servings by having a glass of Biotta Organic Juice with your lunch or breakfast!  That is one reason we recommend our fresh juices to our consumers!

Maybe it's time to try to have a glass of beet juice every morning?  Or potato juice before your meals to prevent indigestion?

Whatever your goals are, set them and stick with them!  They will benefit your life in many ways!

Why I choose juice...

Saturday, August 7, 2010 by Natalie Hadley
Juice, for me, is just about the most perfect thing I can include in my diet.  Why is this, you ask?  It contains some of the most important things in the busy life I lead!

Juice is convenient. It is just so easy to grab a bottle of Biotta Juice and have it as a meal, or in addition to a meal, instead of a soda.  No longer am I striving to find ways to include enough servings of fruits or veggies in my day, now I just reach for a bottle and know that I'm covered.

Juice is also healthy.  Knowing that I can easily treat my body to an effective heart healthy juice like Biotta's organic beet juice makes my life so much easier.  My health is very important to me, and Biotta makes it easy for me to see that they care about my health as well.

Juice is delicious! I'll be honest, you would have never sat me down with a plate full of beets and seen me eat them.  Now, I just mix some beet juice with a glass of carrot juice and I instantly discovered one of my favorite snacks ever!  It's is SO GOOD! And so good for me! (what a great combination, haha)

And THAT is why I turn to juice!

Enjoy the Juice!

Detox with Juice!

Tuesday, August 3, 2010 by Jennifer C
Did you know that organic fruits and vegetables are one of the best ways to detox your body?

According to detoxjuice.net, "One of the easiest, most effective, fastest and safest ways to detox, cleanse and eliminate toxins and disease is by increasing organically grown fruit and vegetable juices in your diet."

The article goes on to say, "Fresh, organic juices offer concentrated sources of live enzymes, minerals and vitamins in an easily assimilated form used to strengthen the body's cleansing and eliminating process."

Biotta's organic juices are more than a healthy addition to your diet, they are the best option for a detoxification juice you will be able to find.  Detoxjuice explicitly states that organic fruits and vegetables "have, on average, double the concentrated nutritional value of commercially grown foods."

If detox is something you're looking into trying, turn to Biotta today and start off right!

Why Do We Love Sugary Drinks???

Monday, August 2, 2010 by Jennifer C
Let's face it, just about everyone loves soda.  For some reason, we can't get enough of the sweet sensation of a cold pop. I can speak so confidently because I, too, am a soda lover.  Recently I have been questioning my decision to drink soda.  What is the draw?

So I decided to make a list of the benefits I get from a pop... What I came up with was a very small list of items that were hardly beneficial to my body.  I may get a quick caffeine boost... until I crash a short time later.  I feel very refreshed... until I realize that I'm actually more dehydrated than before.

I then turned to Biotta's Fresh Juices to see what benefits I could come up with from drinking them.  That list was nearly never-ending.  Every single one of Biotta's juices is packed full of nutrients and vitamins that are essential for the body.  They are very filling, with no added sugar, no added caffeine, and no artificial colors or flavors!

Start Drinking Juice Today!

Monday, July 19, 2010 by Jennifer C
Many people probably wonder why we push a "juice-centered diet" over one full of just eating an abundance of fruits and veggies in their natural state.  Although we are in no way advocating giving up raw fruits and veggies completely, we do see many benefits behind drinking juice!

One major benefit would be the shelf life of Biotta's juices.  Try to keep some potatoes or celery for a couple years and see how fresh they are! You won't have to worry about drinking Biotta's juice immediately because we guarantee a two year shelf life from the date of production!

The convenience factor isn't the only thing promoting a juice diet.  There are also many health benefits:

According to Living Foods, "Although eating fruits and vegetables in their natural state does provide us with a substantial amount of vitamins and minerals, we only obtain the maximum benefits from them when they are juiced. Much of their goodness is locked in the fiber which is expelled from the body. When we juice the fruits and vegetables, their goodness is released from the fiber and we are able to drink their highly concentrated nutrients which are then able to enter our bloodstream very quickly. "
Drinking Biotta's heart healthy juice will help build up your health in many areas.  Our carrot juice is wonderful for vision, potato juice aids tremendously in digestion and sauerkraut juice has been known to even cure canker sores!

Understanding Nitrates...

Sunday, July 18, 2010 by Jennifer C
We've always put an emphasis on promoting the fact that our juices contain so many nitrate rich vegetables!  But I wanted to make sure that before we continue discussing nitrates and the effect they have on the body, you had an idea of exactly what nitrates are and what they do!

According to health expert Paul Johnson, "Nitrate is a salt of nitric acid, and is an essential plant nutrient found in soil that is taken in by plants and used as their primary nitrogen source. Thus, nitrate is a natural part of all vegetables, fruits and cereals."

He also goes on to discuss the effect of nitrates on hypertension: "How can nitrates help with hypertension? New studies have found that nitrates, nutrients found in leafy green vegetables such as lettuce and spinach, may actually help control blood pressure by maintaining the health of blood vessels."

Conveniently enough, he finishes his article by promoting a few vegetables that are very high in nitrates, including:
  • Lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Cabbage
  • Beets
  • Radishes
  • Carrots
Now you know why all of us here at Biotta take time to promote a nitrate-rich diet!  Nearly all of our organic vegetable juice is packed full of nitrates!  For a complete list of Biotta's vegetable juices, click here!

What the New Food Pyramid Means for Our Meals...

Thursday, July 15, 2010 by Jennifer C
Most people aren't aware of exactly what your plates of food should look like now that the Food Pyramid has been adjusted.  I found a very informational reading that stated exactly what it should include:

The plate should be alive with colorful vegetables such as purple eggplant, dark green kale, and bright orange winter squash - all without butter. If there's any meat at all on the plate, it will be no more than three lean ounces of beef, chicken, or much-preferred fish.

That's not all. You'll need five servings of vegetables, four servings of fruit, three cups of low-fat dairy foods, and 6 ounces of whole grains every single day. Cut back on salt. Eat only healthy oils and no bad fats. Stay away from sweets and sugar added beveragesDrink very little or no alcohol. Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. Or better still, exercise for 60 to 90 minutes daily.

It may be tough for some of us to squeeze that many servings of vegetables and fruit into our diet, but here at Biotta, we like to think that turning to juices may make that process a little easier.  A small glass of Biotta Juices can count for a full serving of fruits or veggies!

By paying attention to these simple guidelines, it can lead to an overall improved state of health!  Check out the full selection of our organic vegetable juice and fruit juice today and start climbing your pyramid!

Increase Your Vegetable Intake

Tuesday, July 13, 2010 by Jennifer C
According to Tony Hirving, everyone should put a special emphasis on increasing the amount of vegetables that they include in their diet daily.  He refers to the experts to make the guidelines and say that at least 5 servings of vegetables a day is perfect!

The article goes on to say, " To get the maximum benefits, you need to eat different types of vegetables because they contain different amounts of fiber, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. So aim to include a variety of vegetables in your 5-a-day to get the most benefit

It has been estimated that eating at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables a day could reduce the risk of deaths cancer by up to 20% – fruit and vegetables can also reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke – two very good reasons to eat vegetables, in my opinion!"

It may be tough to see where you can fit that many servings of veggies in every day.  This is exactly why including Biotta in your diet is the perfect solution.  Our organic carrot juice, potato juice, and all of our other juices are packed full of essential vitamins and minerals that promote healthy living.

A glass of juice is the perfect way to sneak in a serving while on the go or in a hurry.  Check out our full listing of vegetable juices on our website!

Keeping Our Juice PURE!

Friday, June 25, 2010 by Jennifer C
One of the words we often use to describe our juices here at Biotta would be PURE.  What do we mean by that?  It's pretty simple...

Every one of our juices is 100% organic, meaning that at no time during the cultivation process do the fruits or vegetables come in contact with chemicals or pesticides.  We grow them organically, and safely in order to keep them as pure and healthy for you as possible, which makes the best organic juice possible!

Also, nearly none of our juices have any added sugar (elderberry juice has some added sugar to take away the sour taste).  Also, our juices have no added caffeine, artificial flavoring or artificial colors.

We don't want to create an artificial beverage with an artificial flavor and no health benefits.  Our fresh juices are some of the healthiest beverages you can put in your body!
